It's that piercing green eye that most obviously marks the shag out from the similar cormorant :)

You've been waiting for that picture so you could use that title for years, haven't you? It's dreadful.

For a great description of an encounter with shags, one shag in particular, see Sea Room (Adam Nicholson) - well worth a read anyway. Maybe you've already seen it? No, I can't point you to the spot in the book where he encounters the shags :)

Oddly enough, the title only came to me as I was actually uploading the pic to dA. It was going to be just Shag until I started commenting on the eye...
I was previously unaware of Nicolson, but having just checked it out on Amazon I might well add Sea Room to my reading-list. Thank you :)
